This workshop provides participants with an update on the latest scientific knowledge about stress: its psychophysiological mechanisms, links between chronic stress and somatic/psychiatric conditions, and effective stress management strategies.
The day includes:
A brief overview of the history and current debates in stress research
A new operational definition of stress
Discussion of fight-flight-freeze responses and social stress strategies
Neurobiological implications of acute and chronic stress activation
Protective factors: resilience, meditation, breathing exercises, and other body-based methods
Reflection on how knowledge of nervous system plasticity can support mental health across different populations
